Bio: Formed when vocalist/guitarist Ken Tamplin (Joshua) met guitarist Chuck King (Idle Cure) through an ad in a Los Angeles area classified paper.  Initial line up finalized with the addition of former Joshua bassist Loren Robinson.

Arrived at the name Shout, in Tamplin’s words, due to the fact "We're supposed to shout and make a joyful noise unto the Lord. We're definitely shouting it out and saying what the Lord wants us to say."

Shout released its full length debut It Won’t Be Long on Frontline Records in 1988.  Drummer Joseph Galletta (Joshua) joined Shout for its 1989 Frontline sophomore effort In Your Face.

Later changed name to 40 Grit due to dispute with a Boston based group also called Shout.  The Tamplin version of Shout had the legal right to sell records but could not perform in any of the territories the Boston based Shout had previously performed in.

Shout/40 Grit broke up in the early nineties only to reform original line up and record the 1999 comeback album Shout Back.

Of Interest: Tamplin got his start in Joshua, handling rhythm guitar and back up vocals on Surrender (1985) while co-writing three songs for Intense Defense (1988).  Released several solo albums in the years immediately following the demise of Shout: An Axe To Grind (1990), Soul Survivor (1990) and Tamplin (1993).  Put together Magdallan with Lanny Cordola and recorded the groups debut, Big Bang, in 1992.

Current Status: Shout is no longer active.  Tamplin released his most recent solo album, Wake The Nations, in 2003.
