Remedy Three - What Happened To Me?

Remedy Three gets a lot right on its independent July of 2025 debut six song EP What Happened To Me?, offering a meticulous joining of melodic metal, commercial hard rock and AOR characterized by brazen guitar riffs, stalwart rhythms and meaningful faith-based lyrics.  Strong production and choice cover art lend additional value.  The Rochester, New York based four piece is further spot on in light of its mission to ‘(bring) an authentic sound rooted in faith and life experience’ while ‘(delivering) powerful performances that connect deeply with audiences’ (referencing the groups press material).  As noted by bassist Ray Eighmey:

“We write music that speaks of our challenges, our pain, our fears, our questions, our doubt, our love, our faith, our hope, and the beautiful mystery. We are a band with a purpose. Remedy Three exists to share their love for Christ through music- bringing hope and light into the darkest corners”.

He goes into further detail regarding the Remedy Three name:

"Christ is our remedy.  Three has a big meaning in the Bible. Jesus prayed three times in the Garden of Gethsemane before His arrest. There is God the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit- the Trinity. There are all sorts of threes in there. Three days, and He rose again in three days. So that’s kind of the way it came together, Remedy Three.”1

While not inviting direction comparison, I see fans of Guardian, Angelica, Shout, Fear Not, Novella and Petra taking to Remedy Three.  Likewise, if into bands of similar form but on the lighter side such as Battlecry, Sweet Crystal and White Heart, Remedy Three should also be of interest.  When further factoring grand and stately classic tenor vocalist Ron Wickings, Messenger (US), Chariot and Chosen Stranger also deserve mention.

Opener “1C924” (standing for I Corinthians 9:24) embodies quintessential Remedy Three as a mid-paced melodic hard rocker with AOR tinges.  Palpable rhythm guitar hits with authority and manifest bass invigorates the backend - noting the transparent production - while hooks beguile in unhesitating fashion.  Put this one on any nineties era Petra album and it would sound at home.  Lyric snippet:

Running down this road
Keeping my eyes ahead of me
Deep inside I know
This race that I run is part of me

I don’t want to do this myself
But you can keep me from stumbling
Cover me up with Your grace
So I can run this path that is before me

“Deceived” trends similar melodic hard rock meets AOR territory.  It ups tempo accordingly, resolved as guitarist Mark Fuebacher bestows riffs of an intrepid natures and soloing that approaches from a bluesy standpoint.  In between, song tempers to a crawl for narration from John 18:37 between Pilate and Christ.

“Steppin’” elevates heaviness with a blues derivative hard rock sound.  Wickings correspondingly lowers his register, aligning with the songs darker nature revealed in implacable harmonies and course-grained percipience.  A contrasting angle unveils in form of the surprisingly easygoing refrain emanating of the commercial.  Lyric snippet:

Put on the whole armor of God
Stand against the enemy
The struggle is not against flesh and blood
But the darkness surrounding me

The great high priest we praise
Holy is HIs name
Jesus Son of God

Ballad “Further” is a good one.  With ticking clock to start, song lithely glides forward to graceful guitar only to break out at moments notice as guitar takes a pressing tone in speaking of the adamant- back and forth and back and forth again.  Final minute resonates of the impactful as momentum picks up in immediate fashion, with a slight progressiveness emanates in the process.

“Tears In The Bottle” is one of my favorites with its outside the box mentality.  Specifically, Fuebacher adorns the song with wave-like guitar that reminds of U2 as pungent bass furnishes the backdrop.  Some of the rhythms even have a Rush like quality.  No, song is not albums heaviest, but it is impresses of the lithesome, elegant and artistic all the same.  Lyric snippet:

Last night, I lay awake in bed
Too many, thoughts were in my head
Your presence, in quiet and in trust
My eyes close, to see the living God

A war raged, inside my mortal mind
The weapons, stronghold the divine
Every lofty, opinion that is raised
To God there's, to God there's only praise

Back to heavier territory with “What’s Happened To Me?”  Albums title track bursts to eighties style metal guitar riffs but not without emanating a darker resonance and distinguished low-end signatures of equal propensity.  A short but explosive instrumental run bursts of dazzling lead guitar.  Song is in similar vein as Stryper, Holy Soldier, Eternal Ryte, Bloodgood and the like.

If interested in well-produced eighties melodic hard rock and AOR then look no further than Remedy Three debut EP What Happened To Me?  Each of its six songs holds up under repeat play in bestowing the type of unique riff, hook and melody to stand apart from the rest.  Give credit to the band for an equally strong performance.  If into any form of eighties influenced music represented here or any of the artists mentioned, make What Happened To Me? a priority purchase- available as a download or on CD from the groups website.
