TIMESWORD - Chains Of Sin - NEW
The good news, however, is that we have one more talented group to report on in Timesword. If anything, Timesword fits the bill when it comes to progressive metal, interweaving its material with needed amounts of rhythm guitar but allowing for intricate time and tempo changes in addition to an abundance of lengthy – and at times technical – instrumental jam excursions. JACOBS DREAM to re-record Dominion Of Darkness:
Vocalist Chaz Bond offers further detail at the Christian Metal Realm:
“Since Dominion was the bands first album that was fully mixed and produced by the band alone there were a lot of production flaws on the original version. This caused the album to falter in different ways, such as the songs not coming across the way they were intended, etc. There will be a few differences. For example, the song "Awaken the Man" is now acoustic. There will be added vocal harmonies and guitar synthesizers that was not present on the original version. We are also considering releasing a brand new song as a bonus track. BTW the recording is already under way. I have completed the vocals to 3 of the songs already.”

Note: Jacobs Dream is a five piece power metal band from Columbus, Ohio. The group got its start on Metal Blade Records with its David Taylor fronted self-titled debut from 2000 and sophomore effort Theater Of War released a year later. Drama Of The Ages, Jacobs Dream’s final on Metal Blade but first to feature new vocalist Chaz Bond, came out in 2005 while the independent release Dominion Of Darkness followed in 2008. Jacobs Dream signed to Retroactive Records for its 2009 concept album Beneath The Shadows.

LIBERTY N’ JUSTICE update:
Press Release / This is Justin Murr with LIBERTY N' JUSTICE and I thought I would update everybody on all things LNJ. This summer I was in the process of recording a "New" LNJ double CD (14 covers and 12 originals) where 23 of the 26 songs are recorded and more than half are done with some very cool guest artists. I went into this album wanting to create just a fun rock n' roll record, not trying to record "Light It Up 2" but just a heavy groove guitar fun spirited record and I think every one involved has done a great job seeing my vision through.....
During this summer though I (sorta) put that record on hold when my 12 year old daughter had some health issues. She was diagnosed with epilepsy 5 years ago and five months ago the medication would not control her seizures any more. She started having 30-40 seizures a night and was placed in the hospital and eventually moved into the ICU. Trinity Paige (my daughter) was placed into a medically induced coma and when that did not work they did brain surgery where they removed a large portion of her right frontal lobe. Through God's amazing grace and a testament of His love past my failing faith, Paige 2 weeks later is showing no signs of seizure activity and has started going to school for half days.
Being a songwriter/ musician during these times I emptied my feelings on paper with what was going on
with her, my marriage and me. With Vic Rivera's talent and direction we recorded a 5-song EP, Chasing A Cure, that we are releasing to benefit The Epilepsy Foundation and all the artists involved have donated there time and talent to see my dream through. Please help up us spread the word. we will have more info soon on all the singers, musicians, whose helping us release it and how you can help a great cause…

CROSSWIRE – A World In Flame
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: The future looks very bright for Lawton, Oklahoma based Crosswire. Drawing upon the tradition of Van Halan, AC/DC, Bride and Stryper – groups that include a duo of brothers within their line ups – Crosswire is led by siblings Noah (guitars) and Seth Copeland (lead vocals, keyboards & harmonica). JAMES GUEST – Klenzd
Of course, all good things must come to an end, as happened at the start of the decade that followed when the Seattle sound (and the flannel shirts and grunginess that went with it) forced the musical landscape in a more modern direction. But a comeback of sorts has been made in recent years in that AdrianGale, Action, Line Of Fine and former Foreigner vocalist Lou Gramm all have put out quality albums that hearken back to the more commercial sounds of an era gone by. LEGACY – Legacy
Musically, Legacy can best be described as eighties influenced melodic metal and hard rock. As a matter of fact, I am going to make this as simple as possible. If you like any of the following bands then there is an excellent chance you will also like Legacy: Stryper, Shout, Guardian, Holy Soldier, Angelica, Eternal Ryte, Soldier, Whitecross and Neon Cross. MAD MAX – Welcome America
Welcome America does present with some musical changes, backing away from some of the heavier guitar driven elements of the group’s earlier albums and bringing a lighter and more acoustic laced sound hinting at melodic rock or even AOR. Read Full Review >>
ORACLE – Desolate Kings
Musically, Oracle can best be described as power metal with the occasional thrash and doom metal overtone. You will find your share of technical time changes hinting at the progressive as well. Read Full Review >>
THE SACRIFICED – 2012
If the metal scene has grown stale for you or are indifferent in terms of the genre then give 2012, the summer of 2010 Roxx Productions sophomore release from Lakeland, Florida’s The Sacrificed, the time it deserves. SEVEN HORIZONS – Seven Horizons
The best way to describe Seven Horizons would be progressive in the truest sense of the word- in the same manner that Neal Morse and Shadow Gallery are progressive. Now, I am sure we have all come across bands that claim to be “progressive” but upon first listen turn out to be, well, not very progressive at all. Read Full Review >>

New PLACE OF SKULLS album on the way:
Press Release / Knoxville, Tennessee doom metallers PLACE OF SKULLS are pleased to announce the upcoming release of their long-awaited fourth full-length entitled As A Dog Returns. The follow-up to 2006’s The Black Is Never Far was recorded at Lakeside Studios in Knoxville by Travis Wyrick and founding guitarist/vocalist Victor Griffin (PENTAGRAM, DEATH ROW, CATHEDRAL) with drums recorded and engineered by Mike Dearing.
Said Griffin of the band’s latest output: “The new album As A Dog Returns picks up dynamically where The Black Is Never Far left off. Where The Black… album had a bit more of a depressive theme lyrically, the new album tends to look to a brighter outcome. Musically we’ve gone further than ever before with dynamics and production. Though all the PLACE OF SKULLS’ brand of heaviness you would expect is certainly there, there’s a nice ebb and flow with quieter parts which tend to set a very dramatic and melancholy mood at times to the overall album.
“With every album we’ve done,” he continues, “our growth and progression has been evident, and this new release is no different. I’m really enjoying the growth of my songwriting as time goes by. I don’t feel as if I have anything to prove so I think the writing gets more open, honest, and genuine with every release. We’re very excited to finally get a new album out and hit the road again! Look for As A Dog Returns to be available in late September!”
As A Dog Returns track listing:
1. “Timeless Hearts”
2. “Breath Of Life”
3. “Though He Slay Me”
4. “Psalm”
5. “Dayspring”
6. “The Maker”
7. “He’s God”
8. “Desperation”

STRYPER reveals The Covering:
Press Release / Following the success of their 25th Anniversary World Tour earlier this year, legendary rock band STRYPER headed into the studio to work on their upcoming album, The Covering, tentatively scheduled for release October 13th from Big3 Records/SONY. For a limited time, fans can preview the new album by following STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet on Twitter at www.twitter.com/michaelhsweet, where he will be revealing a hidden website where fans can hear exclusive song clips not available anywhere else.
The Covering, produced by Michael Sweet, will be unlike any previous STRYPER recording, in that it’s a collection of cover songs from bands that inspired them and helped to shape their sound and musical identity, including past hits from JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, LED ZEPPELIN, KANSAS and many others. A cover of BLACK SABBATH’s hit “Heaven and Hell” will be the first single, with an expected iTunes release in advance of the album. The Covering will also include “God,” a new original recording from STRYPER.
"STRYPER recorded The Yellow and Black Attack (Enigma Records) back in 1983, and it was released the following year,” says Michael. “Twenty six years have passed and after seven studio releases and multiple compilation and live projects, we decided to show our fans where our roots lie musically. The Covering consists of particular songs and groups that molded and shaped us and made us who we are today.”
One of the highlights for STRYPER fans is that The Covering is the first studio album in nearly two decades on which all four original members, plus longtime keyboardist Charles Foley, have recorded together.
“This record includes the original lineup,” explains Michael. “Tim, Robert, Oz and I haven't recorded a full-length project together since 1990’s Against the Law (Enigma Records), so this is truly history in the making. We also had what was probably the best time we've ever had recording a record together and I believe that this comes through in the energy and the spirit of each track. We're all extremely excited about this record and more importantly, we're all extremely confident about the future of STRYPER and the four of us making music together for years to come."
About STRYPER:
STRYPER’s latest album, Murder by Pride, was released in 2009. The band supported the album with a year-long 25th Anniversary World Tour which took them throughout North America, South America, Europe and Australia. In 1984, STRYPER broke onto the scene with their debut EP The Yellow and Black Attack, and have since gone on to sell 8 million albums and tour the world spreading an inspirational message through their branded sound of rock songs, heavy guitars, and pristine harmony vocals. The group’s unprecedented 1986 album To Hell with the Devil was the first Christian album to go platinum and was named one of the “100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music” by CCM Magazine. STRYPER was also the first Christian band to get airplay on MTV, where they had several hit videos, including the #1 “Most Requested” videos “Free” and “Honestly.”

THREAD OF THE MONTH
A current thread at the Christian Metal Realm goes into detail about the top 100 Christian metal/hard rock albums of all time. Join the discussion: HERE
BTW, following are my selections:
1. KERRY LIVGREN – “Seeds Of Change”
2. VENI DOMINE – “Material Sanctuary”
3. SHADOW GALLERY – “Tyranny”
4. HOLY SOLDIER – “Holy Soldier”
5. THIEVES & LIARS – “When Dreams Become Reality”
6. MAGDALLAN – “Big Bang”
7. NOVELLA – “One Big Sky”
8. IMPELLITTERI – “Answer To The Master”
9. VENI DOMINE – “Fall Babylon Fall”
10. SAVIOUR MACHINE – “Saviour Machine”
11. RED SEA – “Blood”
12. KING’S X – “Gretchen Goes To Nebraska”
13. GALACTIC COWBOYS – “Galactic Cowboys”
14. TAMPLIN – “Tamplin”
15. DELIVERANCE – “Learn”
16. DESTRA – “Joe’s Rhapsody”
17. ROB ROCK – “Eyes Of Eternity”
18. NARNIA – “Enter The Gate”
19. BRIDE – “Snakes In The Playground”
20. SACRED WARRIOR – “Rebellion”
21. THEOCRACY – “Mirror Of Souls”
22. MENCHEN – “Red Rock”
23. TILES – “Presence Of Mind”
24. LETTER 7 – “Follow The Light”
25. JACOBS DREAM – “Beneath The Shadows”
Yes, I understand that not all of these are “metal” and many I have not even reviewed yet (although I do hope to get to everything on the list eventually). It also must be noted that the main challenge in compiling the list was not necessarily selecting the specific albums but rather where to rank them. For example, what constitutes top 10 as opposed to top 20? I pretty much went by “instinct” or “gut feeling”, although recent releases from LETTER 7, JACOBS DREAM, THEOCRACY & MENCHEN I put at the end because it is unclear how they will hold up under the test of time (my guess is that they will do quite well!). What proved every bit as tough was the number of very good albums I ended up having to exclude.
Finally, over half the selections come from the first half of the nineties, which makes one think the scene might have peaked at around the time. That said, a legitimate case can be made that momentum for the scene is starting to pick back up - reflected in the number of releases included from the past ten years - as we are now a decade past the turn of the century…

MESSIAH: Final Warning & Going Insane pre-orders available:

MESSIAH got its start in Texas as a highly successful tribute band in the mid 70’s. This eccentric, theatrical band regularly played hour long tributes to ALICE COOPER, KISS and BLACK SABATH. Shows included fire, a 7 ft python, simulated lynchings and even a Black Mass Ritual! But once the band had a religious encounter, the only show they would ever do again was The Final Warning where the band raised Satan and sent him back to hell on a nightly basis.
In 1984, the band released their vinyl-only debut release, entitled Final Warning (and in 1986 the 5 song EP, Going Insane). Both releases had no distribution and, once the band broke from their management company, all copies of both albums disappeared without a trace. MESSIAH disbanded soon after and almost no information about the band could be found for decades! Yet the band’s resilient music stood the test of time and the fact that no one seemed to know anything about MESSIAH for the longest time only served to make them even more appealing to metal fans! Copies of original MESSIAH albums are so rare they are considered Holy Grails of Christian metal – selling for over $1,000 on occasion!
Retroactive Records is pleased to provide the first official CD reissue of Final Warning, complete with original artwork. This Christian metal classic has been re-mastered by the best in the industry, J Powell of Steinhaus Mastering. The liner notes in this Collector’s Edition release include a Special Message to fans from charismatic front man, Charles Michael. Expect tasty guitar licks and powerful vocals inspired by the likes of KISS, BLACK SABBATH, ALICE COOPER, BARNABAS, MESSIAH PROPHET and early JUDAS PRIEST! MESSIAH’s musical legacy lives on!
Final Warning track listing:
1. “Who’s To Blame”
2. “Outta Control”
3. “Where Are You”
4. “The Choice”
5. “Heavenly Metal”
6. “Mistaken Identity”
7. “Keep Searching”
8. “Lucifer”
9. “Final Warning”
Pre-order: HERE

When 1986 rolled around these Christian metal pioneers from Detroit, Michigan followed up their legendary Final Warning LP with the sophomore triumph, Going Insane 5 song EP! Like the debut release, Going Insane had no distribution and even the most devoted Christian metal fan was frustrated by attempts to acquire this masterpiece – that was if they were lucky enough to even know about it! It has been estimated that there are no more than several hundred copies in existence. This only served to increase collector demand and MESSIAH would go on to become cult heroes to underground metal fanatics who would pay over $1,000 for a vinyl copy of this rare EP!
This Christian metal classic has been re-mastered by the best in the industry, J Powell of Steinhaus Mastering. And, Martin Brandt (Heavy/That’s Metal magazines) provides detailed liner notes bringing the band’s storied past to life for the very first time!
This special Retroactive Record’s Collector’s Edition includes three exclusive high quality bonus tracks, “Lucifer,” “You’d Better Say a Prayer” and “Final Warning”, all originally recorded in 1978 with the original MESSIAH lineup from Texas (1970’s incarnation of the band) that all have a decidedly 70’s hard rock feel to them! These amazing bonus tracks were taken from the original master tapes and have never been released in any format until now! You now get a total of 8 tracks and 46 minutes of classic hard rock and metal. Expect tasty guitar licks and powerful vocals inspired by the likes of KISS, BLACK SABBATH, ALICE COOPER, BARNABAS, MESSIAH PROPHET and early JUDAS PRIEST! MESSIAH’s musical legacy lives on!
Going Insane track listing
1. “Going Insane”
2. “We Will Rock”
3. “Heavenly Metal”
4. “Where Are You”
5. “Evil Lies”
6. “Lucifer” (bonus track)
7. “Final Warning” (bonus track)

SACRED WARRIOR & ALTAR BOYS re-issues on Intense Millennium Records:
Press Release / Intense Millennium Records is proud to announce its January 2011 Frontline Music Catalog Collector’s Edition Reissues.

SACRED WARRIOR - Master's Command
The band's debut Rebellion stormed out of the gates like a runaway freight train. By comparison, Master's Command was a more varied and experimental affair. Instead of pummeling the listener with a full-on metal attack, SACRED WARRIOR adjusted their approach to include more melody, more variety, and interesting songs that continue to captivate some 20 years later. Any progressive metal notions the band hinted at before were fulfilled with Master's Command. SACRED WARRIOR had arrived, and staked their claim on the attention of QUEENSRYCHE and FATES WARNING fans worldwide.

ALTAR BOYS - Gut Level Music
Many bands in the Christian music scene had embraced current styles in the early to mid 80's, including new wave, punk, arena rock, and metal. Few bands, however, had the kind of tough, gritty rock and roll sound of ALTAR BOYS. Fewer still pulled it off with such ease, giving fans of SOCIAL DISTORTION and similar groups a true alternative to that kind of punk rock. Mike Stand and company had already recorded two ground-breaking albums, but Gut Level Music was where they hit their stride, perfectly combining the melodic lines of 1980's rock with the energy and attitude of punk rock to create the right blend that struck a chord with punk, rock, and alternative fans for years.
It was previously announced that in November of this year Intense Millennium Records will release newly re-mastered versions of albums by VENGEANCE RISING (Human Sacrifice & Once Dead), SACRED WARRIOR (Rebellion) and BLOODGOOD (Bloodgood & Detonation). Various pre-order packages will go sale on August 1st that include bonus CDs, t-shirts, posters, and buttons from the labels website: www.intensemillennium.com

ADIASTASIA: Life War pre-order available:
The name of this powerful Brazilian band ADIASTASIA comes from the Greek. It literally means “Absence of Separation” or “Non-separable", but it can also represent the communion between the Father, the Son and the Presence of God! The band was formed in the beginning of 2003 by lead vocalist Jeff Winner. In 2004 the band played in the Festival Rock in August where Winner received the prize of best Vocalist. With this coveted award, the band began gaining a significant and loyal fan base, leading directly to the writing and recording of their debut album, Life War, in 2005. It was immediately picked up by Bombworks Records, released in 2006, and made its mark by selling through the first pressing in just a few short months.
AngelicWarlord.com compares ADIASTASIA, “with its double bass driven brand of power metal, to STRATOVARIUS, HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY, but it is certain to appeal to fans of SEVENTH AVENUE and DIVINEFIRE as well.” Searing vocals and vicious, progressive guitars abound throughout this power metal extravaganza, combining elements of speed and aggression with occasional symphonic touches that create quite a powerful full length debut. ADIASTASIA’s magic and charm is based around the classic tenor vocal style of Jeff Winner, who occasionally cuts loose in operatic high pitched falsetto fashion. Winner is a world-class vocalist, bringing to mind Timo Kotipelto (STRATOVARIOUS) or even Rob Rock (IMPELLITTERI).
This 2010 Collector’s Edition re-release has been completely remixed and re-mastered for a powerful and remarkable improvement over the original 2006 release. For added value it features all new artwork by Robert Wilson (TOURNIQUET, BRIDE, KING JAMES, DELIVERANCE) packaged in a four panel digi-pak for the first time ever.

SARDIS announces debut album:
The Missouri based heavy metal band has finished recording its new album, tentatively entitled Escape, and is moving on to the mixing stage. Look for it to clock in at around the one hour mark. No word of a release date.
Escape track listing:
1. “Memories”
2. “Night Calls”
3. “High Times”
4. “Miracles And Myths”
5. “Escape”
6. “Empty Mirror”
7. “Searching For Answers”
8. “Turbulence Of The Mind”
9. “Resuscitation”
Musicians:
Sean Roycraft - Vocals
Kevin Hasselquist - Guitar
Mark Robertson - Bass
Jason St.Clair – Drums
Note: SARDIS brings a classic metal sound that reminds me somewhat of ARMAGEDDON. As a matter of fact, vocalist Sean Roycraft has a gruff low key feel to his delivery not unlike that of Mike Vance. Others, however, have compared the group to DIAMOND HEAD or old OZZY.

CHRISTIAN METAL NEWS
Intense Millennium Records to re-issue Intense & Frontline catalog:
Press Release / Intense Millennium Records is a partnership between Divine Metal Distro, Roxx Productions, and two additional individuals Josh Dieckmann and Sandy Scafedi. We have come together under this one umbrella to form a company that is dedicated to releasing fully licensed material from one of the most prolific group of record labels to exist in the Christian Metal scene, the Intense/Frontline/Alarma Records group. This will be the first time that many of these titles will have seen any form of quality release since their original releases back in the 1980s & 1990s.
Our first batch of releases is scheduled for release in November of 2010 and includes classic albums from VENGEANCE RISING, SACRED WARRIOR and BLOODGOOD. All of our releases will be completely re-mastered to give these albums the best modern audio quality that is available today. As well each release will have brand new artwork based on the original cover designs, along with 8 page booklets complete with lyrics, and liner notes. When possible bonus material will be added as well.
The first 5 titles that will be released are:

VENGEANCE RISING - Human Sacrifice
Few albums can claim to have started a musical movement like Human Sacrifice. While thrash metal had already been well established by 1988, only a handful of bands had attempted to combine such fast and heavy music with lyrics reflecting faith in Christ. None of these bands had released anything more than demos or a couple tracks on compilations until this monster of an album came roaring onto the scene. Fusing fast riffing, driving bass and drums, hyper-speed bluesy lead guitar, and just enough melody to make things more memorable, Human Sacrifice did more than just introduce Christianity to the genre - it revolutionized the developing style of "Christian metal" in a way no previous band or album had done. VENGEANCE RISING raised the stakes and gave fellow thrashers a unique album that set the bar for future releases.

VENGEANCE RISING - Once Dead
Where VENGEANCE RISING's debut Human Sacrifice stormed onto the scene and created quite a stir, Once Dead tightened the thrash attack into a well-oiled machine. While the band's debut was experimental and diverse, Once Dead was a snapshot of a band seasoned by touring and songwriting, with a more consistent approach that capitalized on thrash metal's calling card - velocity. VENGEANCE RISING's second album is rife with fast, thrashy anthems that take their sound to the next level, ramping up the volume, intensity, and energy even more. When other thrash bands were starting to slow down, VENGEANCE took the opposite approach for maximum effect.

SACRED WARRIOR - Rebellion
The burgeoning Christian metal movement had several notable bands by the mid 1980's. None, however, took the progressive elements of pioneers like QUEENSYRCHE and FATES WARNING and combined them with the pure energy and heaviness present in much of the thrash metal of the time. Enter SACRED WARRIOR - a band that skillfully and successfully combined these two elements to create a metallic attack that rivaled many of their contemporaries, and stands the test of time as one of the greats of the era. Rebellion, the band’s auspicious debut, capitalizes on that potent mixture by offering up searing riffs, lightning fast solos, soaring vocals, and a rhythm section that thundered with authority.

BLOODGOOD - Bloodgood
Heavy Metal has been accused by its detractors as all sounding the same. While the mid-80’s saw a glut of metal bands cashing in on the style, many of which sounded the same as the next band, no one could accuse BLOODGOOD of being a sound-alike. Combining a melodic, classic heavy metal approach with the uniquely operatic vocals of Les Carlson, BLOODGOOD carved out its own niche in the metal scene by offering up listeners a potent mix of high-pitched vocal wails, melodic yet energetic guitar riffing, a tight rhythm section, and memorable songs that would stay with you for weeks. This powerful blend came shining through on BLOODGOOD’s self-titled debut album, and quickly set the bar for metal bands wishing to share their faith with the world.

BLOODGOOD’s - Detonation
BLOODGOOD’s second album, Detonation, was the perfect follow-up to their high-energy debut, and raised the bar even higher for faith-based metal bands. The fast songs were faster, the emotion in the songs was more intense, and the musical attack was tighter. The lyrics were also stronger, as the band took on some fairly unpopular topics like suicide and homelessness. Truly a landmark album in the scene, this classic contains the duo of songs “Crucify” and “Messiah” that showed what a real metal band could do with such emotionally charged subject matter and pull it off with such ease.
Beginning in January of 2011 we will unleash two classic Frontline titles per month. With such a vast catalog of titles at our finger tips we welcome any suggestions from you the fans in regards to what titles you would like to see released the soonest. FEATURED REVIEWS
ADIASTASIA – Life War (Bombworks re-issue)
A literal flood of Christian metal bands have come out of Brazil in recent years. And Adiastasia, with its double bass driven brand of power metal, is the next in line in what has been at times an erratic and at others a very rewarding succession of talent to originate from the country in question: Belica, Destra, Dracma, Dynasty, Eterna, Menahem, Seven Angels, Shining Star, Stauros, Sunroad and many others. So how does Adiastasia measure up? Read Full Review >>
DEAD MOONS GREY – DMG
Dead Moons Grey comprises two key members: Marcus Bersaglia (lead vocals & guitars) and David Peters (drums). On DMG the two blend elements of hard rock, metal, blues and groove while staying true to their Southern Appalachian roots through the use of regional instrumentation such as acoustic guitar, banjo, jaw hard and slide guitar. Read Full Review >>
DEGARMO & KEY – D & K
Now, DeGarmo & Key might not quite reflect some of the gritty blues driven sensibilities of its first two albums on D & K but certainly rocks hard – at times crossing the threshold of hard rock – in creating a work characterized by catchy choruses and notable melodies (the songwriting here is fantastic), polished (but not too polished) production and the strong musicianship that Eddie and Dana bring to the table. Read Full Review >>
PASTOR BRAD – Break Out!
What does it add up to? That when at the top of his game PB can write a great vocal based song featuring solid melody structures, big grooving bass lines – one of my favorite aspects to Break Out! – and his trademark shredding soloing abilities, as he aptly demonstrates on ”Cold Blooded Killer” and “I Wanna Be”. Read Full Review >>
STAIRWAY – Interregnum
Musically, Interregnum trends towards the mid-tempo in featuring solid melodies and chorus hooks, well placed backing vocals, shredding lead guitar work (courtesy of Pete Jennens, one of my all time favorite guitarists) and Graeme Leslie’s trademark smooth mid-ranged vocal presence. VISION – Mountain In The Sky
What Vision brings to the table is a joining of commercial hard rock and classic rock with a heavy seventies and eighties slant. The occasional progressive overtone, at the same time, cannot help but bring to mind Kansas or even AD. Of course, with two former Lynyrd Skynryd members you are going to get some hard edged southern influences as well (think 38 Special). Read Full Review >>
VISION – Vision
Of the five new tracks, “Standing On The Rock” is a Christian hard rock classic that ranks with the finest the genre has produced. We also get a couple of other hard rockers, “Don’t Say Its Over” and “You Are My Only Lord”, along with a boogie flavored high energy piece, “You’re The One”. Rounding things out is a customary (albeit predictable) ballad in “Psalm 23”. Read Full Review >>
XINR – Beyond Woodward
What this reviewer hears is an “old school metal vibe” that brings to mind the earlier material of Barren Cross, Saint, Bride, Messiah Prophet and Philadelphia. Yes, a bit rough around the edges at times (at least production wise) but solid musically in that XINR knows how to craft a quality song with enough hooks to draw you in with repeated listen (there is barely a skip button in the first ten tracks). CROSSWIRE releases debut album, A World In Flame:
The Lawton, Oklahoma four piece unit recently put out its first album:
CROSSWIRE started with the songwriting duo of brothers Seth and Noah Copeland. The musical chemistry that brothers can have is legendary (i.e. AC/DC, VAN HALEN, THE STOOGES, BRIDE) so you know they are bound to have something worthwhile. Seth is the charismatic front man and Noah is the kid with the sassy, fast guitar solos. Along with the brothers is the pounding Keith Jones, the hardest hitting drummer you've heard, and the most originally groovy bassist, Justin Wait.
The group describes its music as “raw, hard, and monolithic” and “lyrics equally passionate, addictive, inspirational and motivating”. But enough talk, let the songs speak for themselves. Give CROSSWIRE a listen and check out their recently-released debut album, A World In Flame.
A World In Flame track listing:
1. “Rich Man”
2. “Can't Stop Us Now”
3. “Love On The Road”
4. “Look To The Sky”
5. “World In Flame”
6. “Done With You”
7. “Just-In Case”
8. “Desert Eagle Blues”
9. “Miles To Go”
10. “Southbound Train”
Note: CROSSWIRE brings an energetic hard rock sound reminiscent to MAIN LINE RIDERS, THIEVES & LIARS, AC/DC and RESURRECTION BAND. Some of the groups bluesy material even hearkens back to early nineties BRIDE or a more hard rocking version of GLENN KAISER BAND. Look for a favorable review in the near future.

MISSION OF ONE update:
Vocalist and bassist Chris Dickens offers the latest regarding the next album, Hostile To The Gospel, of his MISSION OF ONE project:
“I have been working the last few weeks on a couple of lines here and a couple of lines there as far as vocals go. I have a few lead guitar solo tweaks to make as far as timing issues go, and then I am ready to begin the tedious job of mixing. I might actually get this finished before 2020!
I do have two vocalists who are supposed to be working with me. One cannot start until July. The other has had tracks for some time. If either come through with tracks before I finish mix down, then I'll go with the stronger singer. But, I did the best I could and tried not to copy anyone. There are some gruff vocals, and some clean. Instead of trying to sing higher than my voice will allow, I did a few things different and tried to bring my register down and still sound metal. I like it, and I don't think that MISSION OF ONE will sound like anyone else out there.
As it stands, I'm all there is. The one song I had by another singer I just decided not to use the vocals. It takes away from the "band sound" that I want.
One thing that you will notice if I use my own voice is the difference in vocals. I am using a couple of different “voicings”. I am doing a lot of low baritone stuff here, some really gruff vocals in places, some upper mid range clean vocals, and some upper mid range raspy voice, too. I've really tried to do my best, get the best sound I could, and do something different than everyone else. I think I might have succeeded in the final part.
I used quite a few guitarists on this CD to finish the leads. David Franey, a fellow Tennessean that I met through Craigslist, did quite a few solos. The other players are:
Pastor Brad (Roxx Records)
Kevin Hasselquist (SARDIS)
JD Evans (LETTER 7)
March Leach
The songs have a bit of range in them. Some of the songs have a definite AC/DC vibe. One song definitely feels like a Zepplin tune. There are a couple of heavier tunes that have more of a power metal feel to them. I also redid an old southern gospel tune called "Just Over In The Gloryland" (I call it "Gloryland") and it has a kind of a bluesy feel. I kept the vocal melody and even the southern gospel harmonies. I love the way it feels."
Note: MISSION OF ONE is a bluesy hard rock project out of Watertown, Tennessee. The first MISSION OF ONE album, released under the moniker MISSIONARY ONE and entitled Take Another Swig, preceded the 2005 offering Show Me The Way and a self-titled release from 2008.

SAINT: In The Battle re-issue available for pre-order:
When 2004 rolled around Salem, Oregon based Christian metal legends, SAINT, returned with their first full length studio release in fifteen long years – In the Battle! After getting started in 1984 with a low budget six song EP entitled Warriors Of The Son, Saint signed to Pure Metal Records and followed up two years later with its full length debut, Time's End. The band may have reached their artistic pinnacle, however, with 1988’s Too Late For Living. Both Times End and Too Late For Living were recently voted top 10 Christian metal classics by the readers of Untombed Magazine. Saint briefly reunited in 1999 for a six song EP entitled The Perfect Life that, disappointingly, sounded like a demo and failed to include original vocalist Josh Kramer. Five years later, In The Battle would find SAINT returning to its classic metal roots of the 80s in addition to welcoming Josh Kramer back into the fold. Don’t expect grungy modern metal from SAINT. Expect a lesson in EXACTLY what old-school metal should sound like. When you think of metal, think of SAINT.
This 2010 Retroactive Records re-release features all new artwork in a Collector’s Edition 6 panel full color digipak. The audio has been completely re-mastered by J Powell at Steinhaus (TITANIC, REX CARROLL BAND, GUARDIAN, MALICE reissues) for maximum sound quality. Offering the total package, In the Battle only solidifies SAINT as a tremendous force in crunchy, traditional, heavy metal. Often compared to JUDAS PRIEST, the muscular guitar riffs and elite vocals also bring to mind BARREN CROSS, DIO, BLOODGOOD and IRON MAIDEN.
In The Battle track listing:
1. “In The Battle”
2. “Star Pilot Return”
3. “Here We Are”
4. “Sacrifice”
5. “Holy Rollin’”
6. “Ryders”
7. “The Choice”
8. “When”
9. “Acid Rain”
10. “Full Armor”

VERTICAL ALIGNMENT advance single downloads:
VERTICAL ALIGNMENT is pleased to release our first advance single from The Trail Of Tears Suite. The song is “Land And Sky”, which tells the story of the Cherokees just before and through their contact with white Europeans. Penned by Peter J and with vocals by Mike Florio, it captures a time that is forever lost. The song also features members of AJALON as guest musicians along with former GLASS HAMMER guitarist, David Wallimann. Enjoy the song that started The Trail Of Tears Suite almost four years ago.
“Land and Sky” features:
Mike Florio - lead vocals
Peter J - backing vocals, guitars, keyboards, Cherokee flute
David Wallimann - guitars
Randy George - piano, bass
Dan Lile – drums

“Native Son,” the second advance single from The Trail of Tears Suite, is an unusual look at Cherokee humorist, writer, radio personality, and actor Will Rogers. This man carved a place in the early 20th century with his homespun wit and wisdom along with a healthy dose of finely barbed political commentary. This song was written by Mike Florio with a little help from Peter J and is beautifully sung by Mike. Kevin Thomas (SALEM HILL). Kevin Thomas joins the band on drums.
VERTICAL ALIGNMENT is indebted to America's premier Will Rogers impersonator, Randall Reeder, who added pithy quotes that you'll hear sprinkled through the song. Randall, along with the Will Rogers Museum, verified that all quotes used are the genuine words of Will.
“Native Son” features:
Mike Florio - lead vocals, keyboards
Randall Reeder - narration
Peter J - backing vocals, guitars, keyboards
Jaymi Millard - bass
Kevin Thomas – drums
